The Travelogues website (www.travelogues.gr) presents for the first time in the Internet the World of the Travelers, a groundbreaking work of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation.
This website projects substantial illustrative material included in Travel Publications from the 15th up to the 19th Century. These books reproduce and describe various representational subjects: ancient monuments, contemporary pictures of towns, habits and manners of each of the ethnic groups involved, as well as scenes from everyday life in the broader area of
Eastern Mediterranean and Southeastern Europe.
A team of scientists has worked for over 3 years studying, indexing, cataloging, categorizing and digitalizing a huge body of material (in excess of 6.000 publications and 15.000 etchings) in order to provide the user with every available information.
The segmentation of this material in more than 4.500 subjects gives the possibility to both scientists and researchers, as well as to the general public, to find suitable replies to the questions they may have concerning this fascinating topic.
The Travelogues site is a dynamic one:
On one hand, it will be continuously and periodically upgraded and supplemented with newly processed material and on the other hand, it will include comments and suggestions from the users concerning corrections and improvements.
The Travelogues website is already uploaded on the web and is available to the scientific and education communities and the public in Greek and English and within May 2014 it will be available also in the Turkish language.
