Anne Couderc is a historian, Lecturer at the Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University in History of contemporary international relations (since 2001) and Member of the IRICE-Identités, Relations Internationales et Civilisations de l’Europe laboratory (CNRS-Paris 1-Paris 4). From 1998 to 2001 and from 2004 to 2010, she has also been Fellow and then Head of Studies for modern and contemporary periods at the French School at Athens (EFA). In 2001 she defended her doctoral thesis written under supervision of Prof. Spyros Asdrachas (Paris 1 University). The title of the dissertation was: États, nations et territoires dans les Balkans. Histoire de la première frontière gréco-ottomane, 1827-1881 [States, Nations and Territories in the Balkans. History of the first Greek-Ottoman boundaries, 1827-1881]. Her main research topics are History and Historical Geography of the Greek State (XIX-XXth centuries), History of the French diplomacy in the Balkans and the Ottoman Empire, History and historiography of the «Eastern question». She has co-organised international research programs like «Live together after the conflict. The role of civil societies in rapprochement and reconciliation processes (France-Germany, Greece-Turkey)», a young scholar program (2009-2011) which was supported by the IRICE Laboratory, the EFA, the IFEA of Istanbul, the University of Mainz and the Franco-German Youth Office, and the 2008-2010 program «Military occupations in the Balkans (1821-1922)», supported by the EFA, the IFEA of Istanbul and the Lille III University (publication in preparation). She participates currently in the steering committee of an axis of the IRICE laboratory general project «Écrire une nouvelle histoire de l’Europe», devoted to the study of imperial Europe.
