The main purpose of the Workshop is to document the multifaceted history of the Greek press from the late 18th century to the present. To this end, the Workshop has set up an electronic data base a) as a repository for primary and secondary material, oral testimony, photographic documentation and other related archival material, and b) as a means of establishing scholarly dialogue and open collaboration with interested persons and organisations. The "Register of Journalists in Greece and Abroad" is part of the broader Greek press data base, and provides a significant tool to help us better chart the human geography of Greek journalism through history. The Register aims to collect biographical data, lists of works, and personal interviews; to locate and record personal archives and unpublished works; and to catalogue primary material related to the people of the press. In support of the above, an annotated electronic bibliography is being compiled.
